Freedom From The Darkness
Riku Fanfiction

It wasn't the first time Riku woke up in the middle of the cool summer nights. It was a vicious cycle he endured. He would first have a horrible nightmare filled with darkness clawing at his body and heart, then he would been torn from his nightmare and brought back to a terrifying reality of lying in bed while being tormented by voices whispering lies about himself in his very own ears and an endless stabbing pain in his heart.
Eventually it would all just fade away, but tonight it was much different.
He felt sweat trickle down the side of his face as he ripped the sheets and covers away from his body and shakily stood. The moon's ghostly light shown down on his bed, but he couldn't see it. Darkness was beginning to take over his vision, slowly encasing him in endless gloom.
"Worthless," the voices taunted, whispering more lies into his ears. He covered them, trying to drown out the sounds of their jeers. He shakily stood, the pain in his heart numbing his body and making his mind spin. He stumbled over to the bathroom and turned on the sink, deciding to keep the lights off. He splashed some cold water onto his face, trying to calm down.
"Forgotten," the voices continued, trying to tear Riku down completely. He felt hot all over and could barely see. All he could hear was his ragged breathing, the sound of his heart pounding in his chest, and the voices in his head. He shakily lied down on the tiled floor of the bathroom, attempting to cool himself. Again, the pain surged through his heart, threatening to overtake it. He wished he had the strength to fight it, but it was overwhelmingly strong.
"I need…light," he choked, clutching his head. He let out a cry of anguish and sorrow, regretting to ever let the darkness toy with his heart. It had tempted him and now he was its slave. It had made promises to him—promises it didn't intend to keep. Tears began to pour from his eyes as he lied on the cold, bathroom floor. It was worse than any depression or injury.
It was a constant, endless agony that he was sure of would never end. "P-please," he whispered into the night, "H-help me…," He was desperate. He called out to the nothingness around him, longing for an answer. He could feel his body begin to melt away with the darkness as it began to consume his soul. He didn't know if his eyes were closed or not. He didn't know if he was lying on the bathroom floor or not. He didn't know anything. He tried to find his voice. He just needed to call out one more time. Then maybe someone or something would save him from this endless suffering.
"Please…help me," he breathed with his last final effort.
Suddenly, the pain inside of his chest lessened and he felt a sense of…peace rise up inside of him. His breathing calmed and the voices drifted away. He felt as if he was floating in the ocean, calm and at ease. Soon, his vision was replaced with a white, pure light rather than the endless darkness. He was completely at peace. Shortly after that, the white light cleared and he was back on the floor of the bathroom. He slowly sat up, the heaviness in his head gone. He looked down at himself, hoping for an answer.
What had saved him from the darkness? He couldn't find the answer inside of him. He probably never would. But he was free. Free from the darkness.

After watching all my friends write and draw today on livestream, I got inspired to write a little fanfic about Riku from Kingdom Hearts ^-^

If you find any grammar mistakes, please tell me! I'm dyslexic Dx

Thanks for reading!

Riku doesn't belong to me! He belongs to Square Enix and the creators of the Kingdom Hearts series
